With the increasing concerns over the spread of the Coronavirus across the globe, there are those who take the danger posed by the disease in stride. A friend of mine and I were discussing the role of the media, and the potential for blowing things out of proportion.
"I don't see what the big deal is," my friend said. "It's the flu, right? You get weak, you get sick. it's not like it's a pandemic."
"The World Health Organization has labelled it a pandemic," I said.
"Oh," my friend said. "So now it's a pandemic now. It wasn't yesterday."
"They made the announcement yesterday," I said.
"Oh," my friend said, a little defeated. "What about the day before?"
"I'm not sure."
"Huh. Timing is everything, isn't it?"
