The first concert I ever went to was Tina Turner in 1985. She was riding high with her 'Private Dancer' album along with the theatrical release of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.
I had no idea what to expect. I'd never been to something like this before, being a pretty introverted kid. And on a school night, no less. And when the act began, she took command of the stage and never let it go. She danced. She strutted. She gyrated and spun. She sang on key and didn't miss a beat. And at age 50. I wish I had even half her energy at that age.
I attended other concerts over the years, but none matched her level of energy or charisma. Maybe my expectations were just too high.
Maybe I was spoiled right out of the gate at my first concert.
