One of the things I don't understand is how people in politics think government works, and how you save money.

The previous Alberta government had implemented a carbon tax. While I wasn't entirely happy with how it was implemented, the idea was the money raised from the carbon tax would pay back into the projects for new projects.

The current provincial government has voted to scrap the carbon tax, claiming that it will save us so much money. Then in its first budget, then tells the public that they'll have to tighten their belts. The government cut jobs, cut municipal funding and cancelled projects.

Money which could have been raised through the carbon tax.

Yep. We voted these folks to power. We saw Ontario and said, 'Oh, we gotta get us some of that!'.
