It's a catch-22 with telemarketers these day.

They ring you up with an auto dialer, then when your phone rings, you answer it, only to be greeted by silence while the caller realizes someone's answered. In that vast, blank space from when you answered to the caller lurching forward to answer back, you hang up, only for the auto dialer to eventually call you back, because it was classified as a disconnect, not a 'leave me alone and put me on your do not call list.

Rinse. Repeat.
